While the disease cannot be cured, we can offer treatment to successfully manage the issue and protect the health and stability of your smile. What treatment options do you offer for gum disease?

Frequently Asked Questions About Treating Gum Disease

Question: When do you recommend a scaling and root planing?

Answer: We recommend a scaling and root planing in the early stages, either to reverse gingivitis or to help manage gum disease. Also known as a deep cleaning, the procedure involves removing plaque from the teeth and roots with an ultrasonic scaler. Doing so can reduce the severity of inflammation and stop uncomfortable symptoms.

Question: Do you offer antimicrobial rinses?

Answer: Yes! We can use this treatment to target the bacteria that inflame the gum tissue, helping protect your smile from periodontitis, the advanced stage of periodontal disease.

Question: When is laser dentistry recommended?

Answer: During the later stages. Using dental lasers, the dentist will remove the infected tissue from the gums. Healthy gums can then reattach to the teeth closing periodontal pockets. Lasers are quiet, comfortable (rarely requiring anesthesia) and reduce the risk of bleeding and infection following treatment.

Question: How do I know if my smile is at risk?

Answer: You should see your dentist if you develop one or more of the common symptoms of gingivitis or gum disese. Warning signs may include soreness, redness, or bleeding in the gums. Swelling or recession could also be warning signs. If you have any questions about treating periodontal disease, then please contact our office today.
