Palatine Cosmetic Dentist Restores Missing Teeth with Dental Implants

Smiling Older CoupleDental implants aren’t technically a cosmetic dental procedure, but they certainly provide amazing aesthetic benefits. When you lose teeth, your entire appearance changes drastically. You also may inadvertently make impressions that don’t speak to who you really are. Ideally, we wouldn’t judge one another based on physical flaws, but it’s only natural that when someone smiles at you with missing teeth, you’ll likely make certain assumptions. Palatine cosmetic dentist, Dr. Brent Engelberg, is happy to help patients make the right impressions with their smiles, thanks to comprehensive services including dental implants.

Dental Implants: What to Expect

Dental implants are a complex procedure that can take time and patience. Biocompatible titanium rods are placed through gum tissues and anchored into your jawbone to serve as replacement tooth roots. Dental implants are the ultimate tooth replacement method if you want to keep your jawbone density healthy. If you leave your teeth missing for years, or only replace them with bridges or dentures, you can lose more teeth over time as your jawbone diminishes. A successful dental implant procedure does require healthy gums and a dense enough jawbone to support the root replacements. If you have untreated tooth decay, gum disease, or an insufficient jawbone, other treatments and procedures may be necessary first. All of this can mean months of healing time before your final cosmetic crown is attached to the titanium rods.

Is There a Faster Way?

Yes, but immediate dental implants are not a viable solution for everyone.  If you are having multiple implants placed, they can be splinted in certain situations so that the implant is placed directly after any necessary tooth extractions. You’ll still have to wait and heal before the permanent cosmetic crown can be placed, but this cuts down on some wait time. Teeth in a day (and All-On-Four implants) can be recommended if you meet all of the dental health requirements to withstand the procedure. Dr. Engelberg can and will recommend the best solution for you in your initial consultation. Dr. Engelberg goes the extra mile with abutments made from zirconia so that the porcelain crowns will look completely tooth-like and have no grey showing through from metal.
