Rolling Meadows Cosmetic Dentist Makes Vampires Happy

Vamp BeforeDSC_0319Dental fads come and go, and usually dentists are concerned with tooth damage when a procedure seems too radical. Shaving off tooth enamel or altering the structure of teeth can lead to weakness and decay. However, it’s a dentist’s privilege to make patients happy when they smile. Your Rolling Meadows cosmetic dentist, Dr. Brent Engelberg, will share a recent case of cosmetic work that was a bit outside the box, but left one patient grinning from castle to coffin.

Vampires Everywhere

Vampires are huge right now. Sleek and sexy, entire shows are devoted to these mythical creatures. Whether it’s a ring of bloodsuckers down on the bayou, a remake of the classic “Dracula,” or a certain series of books made into films that have young girls swooning, vampires are considered to be heroes more than villains these days. No wonder people have fantasies of ever-lasting life. Rumors of people opting to have their teeth permanently reshaped to appear like fangs may seem like fodder for the internet. In actual practice, this trend could be concerning since canine teeth are the most important for proper chewing function. Then, one dark and stormy night…(okay, maybe it was a bright and sunny day, but still…) a young man came to see Dr. Brent Engelberg with an unusual request.

Fashioning True Vampire Fangs

This might be one of the most alternative cosmetic dental procedures Dr. Engelberg has ever performed. A young man came into the office asking for real looking “vampire fangs.” We’ve all seen the costume fangs you can purchase at Halloween stores, but he wanted his fangs to look like they’d grown right out of his gums. While this fad could have its dangers when thinking ahead to long term dental health, Dr. Engelberg took a conservative approach to giving the patient what he wanted. By not prepping the teeth as normal for veneers, these vampire veneers can be more easily removed or shortened in the future. If our vampire patient decides he’s ready to trade in the undead nightlife for a shirt-and-tie day job then he has the option of going back to his original smile.
