Common Questions About Dental Implant Candidacy
Question: How do implants work?
Answer: A dental implant is actually surgically inserted into the jawbone, where it bonds with the jawbone like a natural tooth root through the process of osseointegration. Once the placement area heals, we attach an abutment that holds a dental crown in place, completing the new tooth.
Question: What do you look for in a candidate?
Answer: We look for patients with missing teeth and enough jawbone tissue to support a new tooth. If the patient has lost jawbone tissue due to tooth loss, then a bone grafting procedure may be necessary. We also take gum health into account. The presence of advanced gum disease (periodontitis) can increase the risk of the new tooth failing.
Question: How long will my new tooth last?
Answer: If a patient takes proper care of their new tooth and maintains good oral health, then the new tooth can potentially last a lifetime. Patients should continue to brush, floss, and see the dentist every six month for checkups and cleanings to help ensure healthy smiles and long lasting tooth replacement.
Question: Will my new tooth look natural?
Answer: Yes. The restoration we place will be custom-made from lifelike materials to ensure your new tooth blends with your smile. If you have any questions about tooth replacement or if you would like to schedule a consultation, then please contact our office today.
