What Type Of Restoration Do I Need?

When a tooth develops a cavity, infection, or becomes cracked or chipped, you need a restoration. Otherwise, you could experience a number of uncomfortable symptoms or potentially even lose the tooth entirely. Fortunately, we offer a variety of lifelike restorations designed to return your tooth to optimal function and health. Which type of restoration of you need? Does your tooth need an inlay, onlay, or crown?

Inlay

An inlay is a ceramic restoration designed to address a specific area of the tooth, the place between the cusps on the top of the tooth. The restoration will look lifelike and allow the dentist to target a specific area without needing to cap the entire tooth, as would be necessary with a crown.

Onlay

Like an inlay, this is also meant to address a certain portion of the tooth’s surface. We place an onlay to address the cusps themselves. Also made from ceramic, the restoration is lifelike and blends with the tooth’s surface.

Dental Crown

A crown fits over the entire visible portion of the tooth. We can use one to address tooth decay, infection, chipped or fractured teeth, and to reshape or chance the color of a tooth. Each one is custom-made to ensure a natural looking appearance. In the past, receiving a restoration meant at least two to three visits. However, we can now use the CEREC system to design, fabricate, and place a dental crown in a single visit. If you have any questions about our restorations, or if you feel like you need to schedule a consultation, then please contact out office today. We can create a lifelike and custom-made restoration to address the problem with your smile’s health, beauty, and function.
