Whiten Teeth: Count the Ways

Smiling LadyThere are so many ways that your teeth can become stained and dull. Beyond dark colored food and drinks and smoking, just growing older can lead to a yellowed or stained smile.  Over-the-counter teeth whitening methods may seem tempting but they can lead to unsatisfying results. Sure, you may see some brightening to your smile, but the process of trial and error in finding a product that works can take a toll on your wallet, all the while wasting your precious time. Furthermore, as you achieve less than desirable results, you may keep trying more products. This over exposure to certain elements of various whitening products can lead to tooth sensitivity or even smile damage. Most dentists offer several teeth whitening methods which can dramatically whiten your teeth, giving you a more youthful, vibrant smile in a way that offers comfort and results.

Let your Dentist Do it

In-office whitening is the go-to choice if you’re looking for immediate results on moderate amounts of teeth staining. This is often the best choice if you have an event coming up where you want noticeable whitening as quickly as possible. In office laser whitening generally takes only about an hour or two, and you’ll most likely end up with as many as 10 shades of improvement in the white direction. If you have a wedding or reunion coming up soon, consider laser whitening to make a great impression.

Do It Yourself

Perhaps you are more comfortable gradually whitening your teeth in the comfort of your own home. You wouldn’t be alone in this desire. That is why there are custom bleaching trays available from many cosmetic dentists. You must first allow your dentist to take an impression of your teeth so that the trays will fit perfectly. You will be sent home with prescription-strength whitening gel, and detailed instructions on when and how often to wear the bleaching trays. Generally, the process will take two weeks of daily sessions. The trays can always be reused, and more gel can usually be ordered from your dentist as needed.
