Do You Need Minimal Prep Or Traditional Dental Veneers?

As part of our approach to cosmetic dentistry, we offer treatments designed to reshape the teeth, addressing damage, discoloration, and other esthetic concerns. With veneers, we can often correct several issues with a tooth’s appearance at once. We offer two different forms of this porcelain prosthetic. Do you need minimal prep or traditional veneers to improve your smile’s beauty?

How Do Veneers Restore Smiles?

A veneer is placed onto the front of the teeth, covering the sides and front. Made from porcelain, the restoration reflects light in a similar manner as tooth enamel and offers a similarly translucent appearance. They are used to mask teeth stains, reshape damaged or malformed teeth, close any gaps between teeth, and correct the appearance of minor misalignment. As long as you practice good oral hygiene, including brushing, flossing, and having your teeth cleaned, your new restorations can be expected to last for decades.

Minimal Prep

Minimal prep veneers are incredibly thin. They can be placed onto the front of the teeth without removing any tooth structure. However, since they are thinner they may not be able to address the same number of cosmetic concerns as traditional dental veneers.

Traditional

Traditional veneers can completely alter the shape and color of the teeth, addressing a wide array of esthetic concerns. The teeth must be prepared, which involves removing a thin layer of tooth structure before taking detailed impressions. The restorations are then fabricated and placed onto the front of the teeth. If you have any questions about using porcelain veneers, whether traditional or minimal prep, to improve dental esthetics, then contact our office today. We can see if these lifelike restorations are the right choice for your smile.
